Science Alive- Fairytale Forensics

Science Alive visited Weedons School today with a mystery to solve! They had a twist to the Fairytale Goldilocks and the Three Bears, poor Goldilocks didn't eat the porridge, break the chairs and sleep in the beds of the bears. It was one of her friends but which one? Here's some photos of us predicting, observing and experimenting to find out!

Book Week- authors visit

The junior school had a visit this morning from the author Paula Green. They had a wonderful morning hearing poems of Paula's and some from children their own age. They then made poems as a whole group with the help of Paula. Here is one of the poems they made...

Procedural Writing

On Tuesday we kicked off our procedural writing unit by writing the steps for how to blow up a balloon. Our teacher became a robot who only reacted to children's writing and we had to help her to blow up a balloon. It was hard work and we learnt a lot about writing CLEAR steps and making sure we had our steps in the right order. Later in the week some of use chewed bubble gum for the first time! Excitement was high in Room 4 as we went about writing a procedure for how to blow a bubble with gum! We have published these and they are now displayed on our classroom walls. See below for a sneak peak...

Science

In the lead up to Science Alive's visit to Room 4 we have been read the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears and yesterday we made some porridge. We measured the temperature of the porridge at set intervals of time and talked about what temperatures were hot, warm and cold. This lead to a discussion about how long the bears should have walked in the woods for while waiting for their porridge to cool. Check out the booklet we are each keeping our experiment notes in below.

How to talks

To support our procedural writing unit the children of Room 4 have been invited to present a how to talk to the class. We are going to video these, so watch this space...

Wally Bear Badge Making

As we have been following Wally's travels on his blog we have noticed that he has made a lot of new friends!
We wanted Wally to have a small gift to give these friends when he had to say farewell. We wanted this gift to remind Wally's new friends of where he was from, New Zealand. We had been looking at kowhaiwhai patterns in art and tried to use these in our badge designs. Check them out!

Ways to make the number 10

In maths we have been playing the game dice roll. We roll 2 and sometimes 3 dice and add the numbers together. It's a super way to practice our addition basic facts. Today we recapped the ways to make the number 10 to help us when we are adding 3 dice together. We made a rainbow to help us. Look at Georgia's great book work!
